Jan Poynter

Biography

Born 1957 in Victoria, B.C., artist Jan Poynter majored in Painting and Printmaking at the Vancouver School of Art and continued in Art Education at the University of British Columbia.

Jan’s outstanding rendering abilities have contributed to her fine art career with expertise in illustration, watercolor, pastel and oil & acrylic painting. Her commercial designs and illustrations have been applied to international corporate architectural décor, signage and branding, promotional material, corporate gifting, book covers, children’s educational literature, stationary, souvenir, giftware and home décor products.

With over 32 years of teaching experience, Jan offers clases for Capilano University (Sechelt Continuing Ed) and fine arts classes for private students and art groups. A founding member of the Sunshine Coast Artists Co-operative and the Coast Cultural Alliance, she travels, paints plein air and takes her moleskine sketchbook everywhere.

Working with the Town of Gibsons, Poynter Studio plays host to visiting artists for the Sunshine Coast Plein Air festival in September each year, and encourages artists to visit the coast for informal paintouts on Thursdays throughout the summer. Jan exhibits her work at her home gallery and the Co-op Landing Gallery in Gibsons near Molly’s Reach.
