Different Ways to Start a Painting with Brigitte Desbois

Welcome to Kootenay Lake – Artist Retreat!

Nestled 300 ft from the lake shore, we have access to breathtaking scenery right at the door step. Each day, we will explore a different location along the lake.

Through a series of exercises we will explore plein-air painting techniques that enable us to capture the important elements of a landscape in a short period of time. While doing so we will learn to create paintings with impact by focusing on value sketches and design.

Plein Air Painting with Brigitte Desbois

Welcome to Kootenay Lake – Artist Retreat!

Nestled 300 ft from the lake shore, we have access to breathtaking scenery right at the door step. Each day, we will explore a different location along the lake.

I have often heard students ask: “How do I pick my subject matter and how do I know it will make a good painting?” In this workshop we will explore the most important aspects of a good foundation for a successful painting. Aspects will include choosing your subject, design concept, color schemes and brushwork.

Description:

This is a workshop for beginner and intermediate painters who wish to expand their knowledge of oil and acrylic painting techniques while enhancing their perception and creative visualization. Dominik will focus on several colour contrast principals, which are bases for successful painting. He will inspire your creativity with his travel stories and slide presentations. He will also dedicate time to demonstrating approaches to sketching and painting outside, where the aim is to capture the essence of the subject matter. In your painting activities throughout the three days, you will be encouraged to create a simultaneous dialogue between artistic creativity and environmental awakening.
