Plein Air Cherry Blossom Festival 2016

Description:

An exciting new event, Plein-Air Challenge, will take place on the opening day of Sakura Days Japan Fair on Saturday April 9th providing participants with an opportunity to interpret the activities of the Festival. Just three hours after being painted, sketches, watercolour, acrylic, oils and mixed media will be accepted for jury. The jury will be comprised of 3 prominent plein-air artists who are members of the Federation of Canadian Artists: Tatjana Mirkov-Popovicki, Bob McMurray, and Perry Haddock.

Opus Art Supplies will be providing prizes to the top 3 winners totaling a value of $350!

Dates: Separated registration required but each allows you to participate in the plein air challenge on the 11th

Paint the Peninsula 2016

Location: Olympic Peninisula, Port Angeles, Washington State

Description:

Paint the Peninsula is an international plein air juried competition held August 21 – 28, 2016 on the beautiful Olympic Peninisula. It is being hosted by the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center in Port Angeles, Washington, gateway to Olympic National Park.  Now in its fourth year, artists and collectors alike are raving about this ultimate Pacific Northwest experience.  Registration is $40.

Plein Air Painting – A Simple Approach

Looking for the ultimate introduction to plein air painting this season? What better way than to spend an intensive two-day workshop with Sheree Jones in the beautiful outdoors of North Vancouver!

Sheree’s motto is “keep it simple”. During this two-day workshop you will learn why painting “en plein air” is so rewarding, as well as what equipment is essential and how to pack light. Discover ways of creating harmonious colours with a limited palette, and find out how to keep a sense of humour in challenging environments, too.

Heritage Paint Out Shoot Out

Description:

Meet at 10:00, draw for your downtown heritage location and spend the day bringing heritage to life.

$500 in cash prizes, 1st to 3rd in painting and photography categories.  Plus lots of prizes to be drawn for.

A partnership between the Nanaimo Arts Council, City of Nanaimo Culture and Heritage Commission and the Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association.

Harmony Arts Festival

2015 Harmony Arts Festival

Location: Ferry Building Gallery and surrounding area (map)

Costs: $35 +tax

Description:

In a traditional Three hour Plein Air painting competition, painters must originate, paint, complete and frame a piece of art that they create outdoors. Artists will be painting in areas surrounding Ferry Building Gallery and in the ArtSpeaks tent.

Works will be judged and many fabulous prizes will be awarded.

A wine and cheese reception will follow for participants and jurors.
