PLEIN AIR PAINTING ON THE NORTH SHORE with Sheree Jones

Costs: $250/person
Description:
Experience the magic of painting outdoors “en plein air”. This two-day weekend workshop will provide you with the basics of drawing, colour mixing and composition in the field.
Through demonstrations, handouts and group discussion you will learn techniques used by plein air painters around the world.
Explore the North Shore with Sheree and discover new ways to see its natural beauty while enjoying the camaraderie of painting in a group.
Sheree will demonstrate and paint in oils, so oils are the medium of choice for this class, but water soluble oils and acrylics are welcome.
Space is limited to 6 students to allow for plenty of one on one instruction. Register early to avoid disappointment.

2017 Harmony Arts Grand Prix Plein Air Challenge

Costs: $35 +tax; Wine & Cheese reception to follow for artists & jurors
Description:
In this traditional Plein Air painting competition, painters must originate, paint, complete and frame a painting that has been created outdoors in just four hours on the grounds around the Ferry Building Gallery and Ambleside Pier. Prizes from Opus will be awarded to the top five artists. Jurors will also select 12 artists who will be invited to continue on to the Paint on the Mountain Plein Air Challenge on August 6th on Cypress Mountain.
Notes: All mediums.accepted. For watercolour: provide a mat board or frame for your work. No glass please. For Oil or Acrylics on board, please provide a frame. Maximum size should be 16″ x 20″ including frame. For canvas, no frame required but it should look finished. Be on site by 9:30 for set-up, no late arrivals accepted.
Participating artists must preregister either in person at the gallery, by phone at 604-925-7270 (course # 39085) or online. Cost: $35 + GST (includes morning coffee & muffins and a wine & cheese reception).

Plein Air Painting on Granville Island

Description:
Adams will be drawing on over 15 years of plein air experience and teachings from some amazing mentors to present you with a solid and practical approach to working on location.
Planning, value study, color mixing, design, logistics for outdoor painting and all other practical and artistic considerations will be included in the content of this workshop. Weather permitting, the entire class will be conducted in the field at various locations around Granville Island. If there is inclement weather, an indoor facility or alternate date will be arranged.
Adams will be working in oil, but the principles will apply to acrylic paint as well.

This is an opportunity for artists to learn from some of the best in the field, to really work their craft in a relaxing, supportive, and inspiring environment, and truly grow as an artist.
It’s bound to be a valuable and rewarding experience. There’s also canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, log cabins to sleep in and fresh home cooked meals to eat…can’t get much better than that!
