Sonia Mocnik

Biography

Sonia Mocnik is inspired by her surroundings; cityscapes to the outdoors.  Vancouver born and raised, she has always enjoyed creating art.

Her artwork captures colour, light and the relationship they make with the stroke of the paint brush.  She loves exploring colours and how their relationship and values brings out movement and emotion.  She is drawn to watercolour but enjoys pen and ink and acrylic as medium.

Plein Air is one of her favorite activities and she has participated in many local events such as the Grand Prix of Plein Air in Richmond and Delta, Qualicum Grand Prix d’Art, the April Cherry Blossom Festival at Vandusen and the Harmony Arts Festival. She has won awards at the Harmony Arts Festival, Gibsons Plein Air, Semiahmoo Art Center, Paint the Town, as well as Paint Out Ajijic in Mexico.  She is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Hycroft Painters and the Vancouver Sketch Club.

She instructs watercolour classes and workshops through the West Vancouver Community Center and other venues including teaching onboard cruise ships.

Sonia’s work can be found in private collections throughout Canada, and internationally.
