PLEIN AIR PAINTING ON THE NORTH SHORE with Sheree Jones

Description:

Experience the magic of painting outdoors “en plein air”. This two-day weekend workshop will provide you with the basics of drawing, colour mixing and composition in the field.

Through demonstrations, handouts and group discussion you will learn techniques used by plein air painters around the world.

Explore the North Shore with Sheree and discover new ways to see its natural beauty while enjoying the camaraderie of painting in a group.

Sheree will demonstrate and paint in oils, so oils are the medium of choice for this class, but water soluble oils and acrylics are welcome.

Space is limited to 6 students to allow for plenty of one on one instruction. Register early to avoid disappointment.

Plein Air Painting on Granville Island

Date: June 3-4th, 2017

Description:

Adams will be drawing on over 15 years of plein air experience and teachings from some amazing mentors to present you with a solid and practical approach to working on location.

Planning, value study, color mixing, design, logistics for outdoor painting and all other practical and artistic considerations will be included in the content of this workshop. Weather permitting, the entire class will be conducted in the field at various locations around Granville Island. If there is inclement weather, an indoor facility or alternate date will be arranged.

Adams will be working in oil, but the principles will apply to acrylic paint as well.

Federation of Canadian Artists Plein Air Retreat

Salt Spring Island 2017

Weekend Plein air workshops for Oil Painters on Salt Spring Island Personalized Plein air Instruction for a maximum of two individuals at a time. Workshops begin on the weekend of May 13th and run until the 13 of August. Choose the weekend of your choice between the start and end dates.

Fees: $400 ~ Does Not include Accommodation. Does include a Lunch and snacks and transportation to and from your Hotel/B&B. This workshop is ideal for those who want personal one-on one Instruction. Also those who want to brush up on their skills in preparation for a group Plein air excursion.

Plein air painting can be extremely challenging and rewarding at the same time. I know how easy it is to lose control of one’s palette. In this workshop you will learn how to take control of your palette, color mixing and how to optimize your palette for hassle-free painting. We will paint side-by side so you can follow along every step of the way.

Plein Air Workshops in Beautiful Nova Scotia, Canada – 2017

Join artist James Middleton for a 5-day outdoor painting workshop on the spectacular South Shore of Nova Scotia. If you are a beginning painter or a studio painter, you are in for a great experience!

Date: August 14 – August 18 & September 4 – September 8

Location: LaHave, Nova Scotia

Costs: $625 Cdn + HST. (no increase from last year) This fee does not include transportation, painting equipment, food or lodging.

Description:

Last year we painted at the Lunenburg Golf Course (spectacular views of the Town of Lunenburg), the Petite Riviere Vineyards, the LaHave Yacht Club, Blue Rocks fishing village, Green Bay, West Dublin Government Wharf and from the front yard of my studio, overlooking the popular LaHave Bakery and the boats passing by.

If you are coming from out-of-province, I recommend staying a few extra days – or even longer – to enjoy the spectacular Bluenose Coast!

The workshops offer a good balance between friendly interchange and education. They will be a relaxed, yet informative experience for all participants.

Days will include demonstrations, personal instruction, exercises, encouragement and positive critiques for personal growth.

Subjects covered:

▪       Making quick field sketches to determine compositions.
▪       Making preliminary value sketches to capture a strong design.
▪       Sharpening your powers of observation.
▪       Types of light and value planes.

▪       Creating atmospheric perspective and the illusion of distance.

The Salty Rose cottages are booked well in advance of the summer, so don’t wait too long and be disappointed.

The MacLeod cottages are quite minimal, but some people love them. There are also a variety of cottages, B&Bs and motels in the area.
