Cost: $25.00 Registration Fee, includes lunch and $10.00 for Companion Lunch

Description:

Step 1: Upon arrival on Saturday, July 26 come to The Old School House Arts Centre (TOSH)

Step 2: Select a painting site within the competition boundaries. (This can be done before the competition date or on the morning of the competition during registration time 9 am -11:00 am).

Boundaries: All painting must take place in the downtown area, defined for the competition to include the areas along Fern St West. and West 1st Ave between and including Memorial Street West Ave and Jones Ave. A competition boundary map will be provided at registration. Be sure that your site is in a safe location, out of the way of traffic, and not obstructing pedestrians from passing by or into shops. Permission from owner must be granted to be on private property

Step 3: You have to have your canvas or paper stamped by TOSH, receive your painting tag and inform us of your painting site to qualify. (a volunteer will tour the area to ensure your blank canvas or paper is stamped)

Step 4: At 11 am begin painting at your site.

Materials: Participants are required to bring all materials necessary for their work to be completed (canvas, or paper, paint, water, brushes, and an easel to work on and to display your art work during judging. We encourage you to bring an umbrella large enough to cover your work area to provide shade and protection in case of rain.

Painting Restrictions: All work must be completed 100% “en plein air,” e.g., outdoors, during the competition. Painting is to occur only between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday, July, 2014.

Ready-Made Frame or Mat: Each painting MUST be framed, matted ~ in a manner the work can properly be presented, displayed and handled. No Frame is required for wide canvas, however if it is wet oil paint please consider a frame to facilitate handling Set Up: Artists may choose their site and set up their equipment before the competition officially begins at 11:00 am.

Begin Painting:  At 11:00 am, artists begin to create their artwork. The artists must start with nothing pre-painted, pre-drawn and create their artwork ONLY during the Grand Prix d’Art time frame. If the rules are violated, the participant will be disqualified. The competition ends at 2:00 pm. Stop Painting: All artists must stop painting their artwork by 2:00 pm

Exhibition & Judging: All artists must bring their completed work and easels to TOSH where judging will take place. Event staff will assist participants in setting up their easels for the Grand Prix d’art Exhibit and judging. Judging will occur between 2:30 and 3:30 pm. The Grand Prix d’Art Paintings will be hung in the gallery July 26 to August 4. Unsold paintings must be picked up at TOSH by 4:00 pm Monday, August 5th, 2014. Please make arrangements to have your work either picked up on this date or shipped to you collect.
